Why there is no forecast

Earthquakes and eruptions cannot be predicted. No scientific body issues advance warnings of a specific quake, and anyone claiming to is wrong. What can be published is what has just happened, and what is currently ongoing. That is what this page shows. For genuine advance warning of a tsunami after a quake, follow your national warning centre.

Significant earthquakes, past 30 days

The most recent magnitude 4.5 and above earthquakes worldwide, newest first, from the USGS 30-day feed. Significant events flagged by USGS are marked. This is the same data behind the map, presented as a readable feed.

Tsunami-flagged earthquakes

Earthquakes from the same feed that met tsunami-warning criteria. The flag means a warning centre was notified, not that a wave was observed.

Active wildfire events

Wildfire events currently listed as active by NASA EONET. These are large, named events rather than individual satellite detections.

Active severe storms

Tropical cyclones and severe storm systems currently tracked by NASA EONET, sourced from the NOAA National Hurricane Center, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and GDACS. Wind speed is shown where reported.

Active floods

Flood events currently tracked by NASA EONET, covering inundation and water extending beyond normal river and lake extents.

Active landslides

Landslides, mudslides and avalanches currently tracked by NASA EONET. Many follow heavy rainfall or a major earthquake.
